At The Coding Space, our educational philosophy is rooted in teaching coding using the Socratic method. We have found this strategy allows students to learn coding intuitively and creates a student-centered, positive learning experience.
The University of Chicago explains that “Our students discover quickly that the Socratic Method is a tool and a good one at that used to engage a large group of students in a discussion, while using probing questions to get at the heart of the subject matter.” At The Coding Space, rather than teaching law, we use the same technique to teach coding. The University of Chicago shares this method helps students “to develop critical thinking skills and enable them to approach the law as intellectuals.” We have seen the same success with our students at The Coding Space. Rather than lecturing or having students copy and paste, our teachers ask students questions to help them discover the coding solutions independently.

Our classes don’t look like a typical in-school class, with a teacher at the front of the room providing a lesson plan for 20 kids. We provide individualized attention with a 4:1 student to teacher ratio.
Our classes look more like an art class. Each student works on their own project, our teachers floating around throughout the class, sitting down individually with each child to give feedback and allowing the student to continue creating. We have seen this individualized approach yield tremendous results in our students' progress and excitement for coding. Through coding, they are able to learn how to tackle difficult challenges and solve problems creatively.
